Decent Offer: 50% off British Airways redemptions to/from Birmingham

British Airways has really been on the push to get some international routes flying from ‘regional' airports around the UK. As part of their latest month-long promotion for routes to and from Birmingham International Airport (BHX) you can make Avios redemptions for 50% less than their going rate.

Please note that 50% discount applies only to the Avios, and not to the cash component! You must also book by 30th June 2017 and fly by 25th November 2017. You need to book online via BA.

As you may realise, Birmingham not being London, BA do not fly many international routes from there, so while the headline sounds great, the choice of routes is not large, and each route has a different seasonal end date. They are:

  • Ibiza and Palma: 30 September 2017
  • Malaga: 28 October 2017
  • Florence: 25 November 2017

All flights are operated by BA CityFlyer on their Embraer E190, so seats are in 2-2 configuration down Club Europe and Euro Traveller cabins.

All the routes in this promotion fall into the Zone 2 Avios redemption category meaning a one-way ticket should cost:

  • Euro Traveller: 7500 Avios on peak days (blue in calendar below) / 6500 Avios off-peak days (green),
  • Club Europe: 15000 Avios peak / 12750 Avios off peak

Note that the taxes are capped at £17.50 or £25 each way for Euro Traveller and Club Europe respectively. You should try to book these as one-way tickets as the flights from mainland Europe back to UK can fall below the cap, which is especially common in Club Europe.

A quick inspection shows that the promotional rates have already been loaded.

As usual, you must book the ticket online via British Airways.
