There is currently a fantastic business class deal sold by LATAM between Porto/Lisbon to São Paulo for just £1056 or €1202 round trip. There is no minimum stay requirement which means this could be used as a fun Tier Point run, albeit nowhere near the most efficient in €/TP, or simply to take you on your next holiday in comfort.
Lisbon flies non-stop to São Paulo, but you can take an optional transfer in Spain. Since there are no non-stop LATAM flights between Porto and Brazil, these will require a transfer in Madrid or Barcelona with Iberia or Vueling respectively.
You can use Google Flights to search and play around with dates, but these appear to price up correctly on LATAM's website.
There are several types of aircrafts being operated on the long haul portion, each with quite different seats on offer.
- Lisbon — São Paulo: Boeing 767, reviewed by this blog last year.
- Barcelona — São Paulo: Airbus A350, which has a similar seat to this Boeing 787-900 flight I reviewed last week (also the first photo at the top)
- Madrid — São Paulo: Boeing 777, see below.
Earlier this year LATAM announced they would be rolling out their latest product across most of their widebody aircrafts. The Boeing 777s are on the priority list to receive these and have already started their refitting.
Given the very low taxes, you could also consider doing an ultra-cheap Avios redemption all the way from Europe to New Zealand without fuel surcharges. But for this specific route I'd stick to cash. Don't forget this route would earn a minimum of 280 Tier Points round trip, and is a good starting point to plan big tier point runs. Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro also feature on my marginal 2000 mile Oneworld routes.
